THE SOFT GOLD OF ALEXA
At Westmere Atelier, our philosophy reaches beyond aesthetics—it begins with purity, responsibility, and respect for nature. Our cashmere is fully traceable and sourced exclusively from high-quality, organic fibres from the remote Alxa region of Inner Mongolia. Completely biodegradable and processed without harmful chemicals, it leaves no negative impact on the environment. Each fibre is collected gently by hand, ensuring zero harm to the goats and maintaining the highest ethical standards. We work closely with an industry-leading spinner committed to transparency and strict environmental practices, helping nurture a sustainable ecosystem around the cashmere trade.
Cashmere isn’t just soft — it is extraordinarily soft. Its surface has fewer and finer scales than sheep’s wool, giving it a uniquely smooth, silky touch that feels exceptional against the skin. Unlike ordinary wool, cashmere is naturally hypoallergenic, less prone to itchiness, and effortlessly breathable. It adapts to the wearer’s temperature, offering warmth without heaviness and insulation without bulk. Remarkably, cashmere is up to eight times warmer than wool while remaining weightless. Whether worn directly on the skin or layered in colder seasons, Luciénte cashmere delivers feather-light comfort, refined warmth, and unmatched breathability.
Deep within the arid landscapes of Alxa, Inner Mongolia, a rare and precious fibre is found. The region is home to a distinctive breed of goats known for producing one of the world’s purest and finest cashmere fleeces. To endure harsh winters, these goats develop an exceptionally soft undercoat — a delicate layer of fleece that sheds naturally each spring. With fibres averaging just 15.5 microns in diameter — six times finer than human hair — Alxa cashmere stands among the most exclusive natural materials on earth. Only a few dozen grams can be gently combed from each goat annually, making true Alxa cashmere a treasure defined by rarity and luxury.
The exclusivity of Alxa cashmere lies not only in its scarcity but in the meticulous craftsmanship required to transform it. The fleece can only be collected during a short seasonal window when the goats naturally shed their undercoat. Each Westmere Atelier garment begins with fibres carefully combed by hand from several goats—a slow and precise process that demands skill and patience. Once gathered, the cashmere undergoes expert sorting, spinning, and finishing to preserve its natural softness and durability. This dedication to refinement ensures that every piece becomes more than clothing—it becomes a testament to quiet, enduring luxury.
When cared for properly, pure cashmere garments can last for more than a decade, often enduring over 200 wears. Cashmere fibres are naturally hollow, making them lighter, warmer, and more insulating than wool. They resist shrinking, retain their shape beautifully, and require minimal maintenance. High-quality fibres—like those we use—also experience reduced pilling. While light pilling is normal in high-friction areas, it diminishes significantly after the first few wears and can be easily removed with a cashmere comb. Choosing a Westmere Atelier piece means investing in longevity, lasting comfort, and timeless performance that improves year after year.
Cashmere has earned its reputation as “soft gold,” and the reasons are clear. Each goat produces only a handful of usable fibre annually — far less than the wool yield of sheep. Combined with the skill of trained artisans, ethical harvesting practices, careful grading, spinning, and craftsmanship, this creates a fibre of exceptional value. Premium cashmere — the kind with the longest, finest, and brightest fibres — can reach costs of €200 per kilogram. At Westmere Atelier, we refuse to compromise on quality. Every garment embodies refinement, comfort, durability, and modern luxury. Once you experience genuine cashmere, returning to ordinary wool is simply unimaginable.
Westmere Atelier represents more than fashion—it embodies conscious luxury. We honour nature, value craftsmanship, and elevate everyday menswear through purity and precision. Our cashmere collection is crafted for the discerning man who appreciates timeless style and quiet refinement. Every piece reflects a seamless balance of natural elegance and contemporary design, offering garments that express not only who you are, but what you stand for. OUR SUPPLY CHAIN TIERS
This stage involves the final construction of each garment before it reaches our warehouse. As a labour-intensive step, this is where most social impact occurs — which is why we maintain full transparency and 100% visibility over the factories responsible for this part of production.

This step encompasses the creation and dyeing of the fabrics and trims. It is typically the most energy-demanding phase, as the weaving and finishing processes require substantial resources. Careful oversight ensures consistency, colour depth, and long-lasting fabric integrity.

Here, the fibres are spun into yarns before being crafted into fabric. This stage requires significant energy and is often handled by specialist facilities separate from tier-2 production. At present, we have visibility over 47% of the suppliers operating at this tier for our primary fabrics.

Depending on the fibre type, this stage includes growing, farming or sourcing the raw fibres. It remains the most challenging part of the supply chain to trace, yet we currently maintain 25% visibility of the suppliers involved in this tier for our principal materials.
